Six dead, 22 injured as wall collapses in UP’s Mau

Lucknow: At least six people, including four women and two kids — aged two and three — died while 22 women were injured when a boundary wall collapsed near the Ghosi roadways stand in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district on Friday.

The wall, built near a private school located at Madhapur Samaspur in Ghosi Kotwali area, caved in when a group of women were performing some wedding-related rituals for a resident. After the collapse, the women were trapped in the debris, police said.

On being alerted, officials of the district administration and cops led by Ghosi SDM Sumit Singh reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Mau SP Avinash Pandey said the accident took place around 3pm. All those injured were rescued and admitted to different hospitals where they were stable, he added.

“Of six deceased, four were identified as Poonam Sharma (42), Madhav (3), Chanda Chaurasia (50) and Puja Agrawal (32),” said the SP, adding that the identity of another woman and child killed in the tragedy was being ascertained.
