In the Lok Sabha elections of Kannauj, which began in 1967, the first woman candidate to win was Sheila Dikshit from the Congress in 1984. Following that, in a by-election held in 2012, Dimple Yadav was elected unopposed. Then, in 2014, Dimple Yadav secured a victory again, but in 2019, she faced defeat. In a total of 16 elections held for the Lok Sabha seat, 11 female candidates contested. This time in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, only Lalit Kumar from the National Revolutionary Party is in the fray, representing half of the population.
