Uttarakhand: Cloudburst in Pithoragarh, Bailey bridge connecting Gunji-Kalapani buried under debris, road also destroyed

Uttarakhand Weather Update: The movement of vehicles from Kalapani to Lipulekh has stopped due to road collapse. The place where the bridge is buried under the debris is one kilometer below the Kalapani temple towards Gunji.

A cloudburst occurred late night in Pithoragarh amid heavy rain alert in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, the Bailey Bridge connecting Gunji-Kalapani has been buried under debris, while the road has collapsed at many places. Brijesh Hotyal told that due to cloudburst on Tuesday night, the water of Nacheti drain, which originates from Nag Parvat, suddenly increased. Due to which a large amount of debris also came along with the water.

Due to the collapse of the road, the movement of vehicles from Kalapani to Lipulekh has stopped. The place where the bridge is buried under the debris is one kilometer below the Kalapani temple towards Gunji. On receiving information about the incident, officers of 65 RCC unit of BRO, Army, ITBP and SSB have also reached the spot. BRO officials have informed the administration about the incident.

Heavy rain warning for three days
Even today the weather is bad in Uttarakhand. The morning started with rain in many hilly areas including the capital Dehradun. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains on Wednesday and Thursday in all the districts of Uttarakhand. Whereas, on July 21, an orange alert has been issued for heavy rains across the state. According to the Meteorological Center, there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Dehradun. Bikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Center, said that from July 19 to 21, there may be heavy rains in many areas of the state. Landslides can block roads and highways in vulnerable areas.
