Yogi govt cracks down on illegal liquor trade, conducts over 68,000 raids in just 23 days

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Excise Department’s enforcement drive to curb the illegal liquor trade in Uttar Pradesh has continued at full pace. During a statewide campaign conducted over just 23 days in October, officials carried out 68,117 raids across the state. As part of the crackdown, 7,194 cases were registered, 1,67,153 bulk litres of illegal liquor were seized, and 180 individuals were sent to jail.

In line with the Yogi government’s policy to effectively curb the manufacture, transportation and sale of illegal liquor, enforcement activities have been intensified across the department.

The statewide campaign is focused on identifying and acting against illegal activities. The objective is not only to tighten the noose around violators but also to protect people from the potential harm caused by spurious and adulterated liquor.

Excise Minister Nitin Agarwal said, “The large-scale action demonstrates the department’s emphasis on extending the campaign across different parts of the state. Enforcement measures such as raids and inspections play a crucial role in controlling the illegal liquor trade by identifying unlawful storage, sale and supply networks and ensuring legal action against those involved.”

Excise Commissioner Dr Adarsh Singh said, “The enforcement drive against the illegal manufacture, smuggling and sale of liquor would continue with full strictness across the state. Stringent action is being taken against those violating the rules, and negligence at any level will not be tolerated.”

Between October 1 and 23, the department conducted a total of 68,117 raids across Uttar Pradesh, registered 7,194 cases, seized 1,67,153 bulk litres of illegal liquor, and sent 180 individuals to jail.
