The Yogi government is continuously working to socially and economically empower persons with disabilities and provide them with a dignified life. In this direction, the government is providing financial assistance to couples with disabilities under the Marriage Incentive Award Scheme. So far in the financial year 2026-27, 18 couples with disabilities have benefited under the scheme. The government has made a provision of Rs 2.64 crore for the scheme, against which Rs 4.55 lakh has already been spent.
This government initiative is helping persons with disabilities become self-reliant while providing financial support for their married life. Through the online scheme, the government is ensuring transparency and ease in delivering assistance to eligible beneficiaries. Under the scheme, couples with a minimum of 40 percent disability are provided assistance ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000, based on their disability status.
Under the scheme, if the male partner is a person with a disability, an amount of Rs 15,000 is provided; if the female partner is a person with a disability, Rs 20,000 is provided; and if both the male and female partners have disabilities, an amount of Rs 35,000 is provided as an incentive. The scheme is operated online, and beneficiaries receive direct benefits through e-payment via PFMS.
This sensitive initiative of the Yogi government is reaching many couples with disabilities. From financial year 2017-18 to 2025-26, a total of 6,698 couples with disabilities have benefited under the scheme. In financial year 2025-26 alone, the scheme provided financial incentives to 805 couples with disabilities.
Dr Amit Kumar Rai, Deputy Director, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, said the Marriage Incentive Award Scheme is an important initiative to socially and economically empower persons with disabilities. The government’s objective is to provide persons with disabilities with a dignified life and financial support in their married life.
Dr Rai said that many couples with disabilities are benefiting from the scheme.
