Young goat trapped in 40-ft borewell for 8 days in Hathras, rescue op on

Lucknow: A little goat has been trapped in a borewell in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district for the past eight days. According to locals, the kid fell into an abandoned 40-ft borewell on November 28 at an under-construction court plot near Mursan Collectorate.

They said the animal has been constantly bleating. The owner approached the administration but his pleas went unheard for eight days. Only after the matter gained traction on social media did teams from the forest and fire departments with a JCB initiate a rescue operation on Tuesday to save the animal.

Chandrapal Singh, the Tehsiladar (Sadar), said, “The rescue operation began on Tuesday around 1pm, with efforts to dig out 15ft on the first day. On the second day, the rescuers continued their efforts to extricate the animal. The operation is under way.”

Mahesh Kaushik, a local, expressed concern about the delayed response: “The district officials must give priority to this operation as the animal is still alive.”

The forest department initially attempted to use a rope and iron hook but failed.
