The Editors Guild of India has expressed concern over the Karnataka government’s decision to set up a fact check unit to monitor “fake news” on social media platforms. .
The Guild said efforts to scrutinize such material should be made by independent bodies not within the purview of the government, otherwise they would become instruments of silencing dissent.
