Liquor smuggler accused of attacking Bihar cop arrested

Lucknow: A liquor smuggler Amit Singh Chaudhary of Sasaram was arrested after suffering bullet injuries in exchange of fire with police in Kachhwa area of Mirzapur district on Sunday late night. He was absconding after attacking an ASP and a sub-inspector of Nokha police station in Rohtas district of Bihar.

Regarding late night police action ASP City Mirzapur Shrikant on Monday said that on getting inputs regarding movement of notorious liquor smuggler in the district a joint team of surveillance cell, special operation group and Kachhwa police station raided a place in Kachhwa area around midnight. On becoming aware that he had been surrounded by police the miscreant opened indiscriminate fire on police team and tried to escape on his motorcycle.

However, when the cops also opened fire in self defence the miscreant suffered bullet injury in leg and fell from motorcycle at some distance, he said adding, the cops rushed injured miscreant to district hospital where his identity was ascertained as Amit Singh Chaudhary alias Sunil Chaudhary alias Munna of Sasaraom town in Rohtas district of Bihar. Police recovered a country made revolver, cartridges and a motorcycle from him.

After collecting his criminal history ASP said that Chaudhary used to purchase stolen SUVs on very cheap price with the help of his gang members. These SUV’s were used to smuggle liquor in Bihar, said the officials adding, whenever Chaudhary found him surrounded by cops in his bid to enter Bihar for delivering liquor consignment he used to leave the vehicle abandoned and flee the scene.

In one of those bids he had attacked an additional SP and SI of Nokha police station in Bihar. Apart from Rohtas in Bihar several cases were also lodged against him with Mirzapur and Sonbhadra police. ASP said that police had announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on Chaudhary.
