‘I am shocked and embarrassed’, Priyanka Gandhi furious over India abstaining from voting in UN on Gaza ceasefire

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday said she was shocked and embarrassed that India abstained from voting on the resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza in the United Nations General Assembly. He also said that it is wrong not to take a stand and watch silently at a time when every law of humanity has been demolished. India abstained from voting on the UN General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

In her post on the social media platform ‘X’, Priyanka Gandhi mentioned Mahatma Gandhi’s statement that ‘An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.’ “I am shocked and embarrassed that our country abstained from the vote on a cease-fire in Gaza,” he said.

Priyanka said, “Our country was founded on the principles of non-violence and truth. Our freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for these principles. These principles are the basis of the Constitution, which defines our nationhood. They are the foundation of India. Represent the moral courage that has guided her steps as a member of the international community.”
He said, “When every law of humanity has been destroyed, food, water, medical supplies, communications and electricity have been cut off for millions of people and thousands of men, women and children are being harmed in Palestine, Then it is wrong to refuse to take a stand and watch silently.” Priyanka said this is contrary to everything that India as a nation has always stood for.
