New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) The Delhi Police have solved the theft of a Government Public Works Department (PWD) CCTV DVR installed in the national capital’s Seelampur and arrested three persons in connection with the case. The stolen property and a substantial portion of the sale proceeds have also been recovered.
According to police, a case was registered at Seelampur Police Station with an e-FIR filed under Sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of Raees Khan regarding the theft of a Government PWD CCTV DVR installed at J-Block in Seelampur. The theft occurred on July 27.
During the investigation, the police team examined the CCTV footage and identified two individuals allegedly stealing the DVR. Through technical surveillance and local intelligence, the accused were traced and arrested.
They were identified as Danish Ansari, son of Raees Ansari and a resident of Shri Ram Colony in Delhi’s Khajuri; and Arif Khan, son of Maqsood Ahmed and a resident of Shri Ram Colony in Khajuri.
During sustained questioning, both accused allegedly confessed to the crime and disclosed that the stolen DVR had been sold to a scrap dealer in the Jahangirpuri area.
Acting on their disclosure, the police apprehended Aasu (18), son of Som Dutt and a resident of a jhuggi located in front of Mother Dairy in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, who had allegedly purchased the stolen property.
Following further investigation, police obtained remand of the accused and recovered substantial case property as well as the proceeds from the sale of the stolen DVR.
Police said the investigation revealed that Arif Khan had previously worked with the PWD during the installation of CCTV cameras. He was familiar with the process of removing the DVR and hard disk, which allegedly helped facilitate the theft.
The recovered items include one stolen PWD CCTV hard disk, Rs 48,000 in cash believed to be the sale proceeds of the stolen DVR, and one Oppo mobile phone recovered as case property.
Police records show that Danish Ansari has previously been involved in four theft cases, while Arif Khan has one previous case related to robbery. Aasu has no previous criminal involvement.
