A major decision concerning Anganwadi workers and helpers was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday. Anganwadi workers and helpers in the state will now receive one additional saree to help them perform departmental duties more effectively and work in the prescribed attire at their workplaces. This decision will benefit a total of 3,80,290 Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state. The state government will spend approximately Rs. 19.02 crore on this initiative.
Under the Central Government’s Centrally Sponsored Scheme, Anganwadi centers provide supplementary nutrition to children up to six years of age, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescent girls aged 14 to 18 years. Anganwadi workers and helpers play an important role in delivering these services effectively. Under the existing arrangement, the general scheme provides two sarees annually, with the Center and state sharing the expenditure in a 60:40 ratio. Now, one additional saree will be provided.
The state has sanctioned 1,90,145 posts for workers and 1,90,145 posts for helpers for 1,90,145 Anganwadi centers. Accordingly, the government has decided to provide an additional saree to 3,80,290 Anganwadi workers and helpers. The government aims to ensure compliance with prescribed attire while performing departmental duties and provide practical relief to personnel working in field areas.
Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, while providing information in this regard, stated that personnel working in rural and field areas face difficulties in regularly using and washing the prescribed uniform, and that sarees can become dirty or damaged due to adverse weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances. In view of these circumstances, the decision has been taken to provide an additional saree. At a rate of Rs. 500 per saree, the estimated total financial burden on the state government will be Rs. 19,01,45,000, or approximately Rs. 19.02 crore
