Prayagraj: The responsibility for streetlight maintenance will now be taken up directly by the Municipal Corporation. Starting in the second week of September, the Municipal Corporation will commence its operations in full swing. The process of forming teams has already begun. Prior to this decision, the responsibility of repairing streetlights was in the hands of four different companies. According to the data from 2017, around 60,000 streetlights were installed in 80 wards of the city by various companies. However, more than 15,000 of these streetlights have been malfunctioning for several months. When complaints are made, instead of resolving the issue, the companies often shift responsibility to one another. To address such problems, the Municipal Corporation will take up the maintenance of all streetlights in the city’s 72 wards starting in September.
