Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested Munir Alam, an active member of Popular Front of India (PFI) a banned organization, from Muzaffarnagar and called him for questioning to Lucknow. ATS also got a ten-day police custody remand of Munir Alam.
Special DG, law and order, Prashant Kumar told newspersons that Munir was given the responsibility of strengthening the PFI in western Uttar Pradesh. “Alam has also been a member of PFI’s ad hoc committee and was arrested from near Muzaffarnagar railway station,” he said.
Kumar added that during the initial interrogation it has surfaced that Alam, after doing his class 12 from Islamia Inter College, Meenakshi Chowk, Muzaffarnagar, stayed at home for three years and then enrolled in Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, to study law in 2015.
Munir told police that Maulana Shadab used to visit his village Dadhedu Kala. Munir joined PFI in 2015 through Shadab and started actively participating in their work.
“Munir has also visited PFI’s Shaheen Bagh headquarters in Delhi several times. In 2017, he was made a member of the Adhoc Committee of the Uttar Pradesh Unit of PFI,” said Kumar.
After the ban was evoked against PFI by the MHA last year, Munir Alam was engaged in the propaganda of PFI. He was also distributing the propaganda material of the organization among the people.
Munir Alam also participated in the CAA/NRC protests organized by PFI and was arrested and jailed.
