Undertrial jumps off moving train, dies
Lucknow: An undertrial died when he jumped off a running train allegedly in a bid to escape police custody near Sarai Bhupat railway station in Etawah district early on Friday.
Etawah senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar said undertrial Sonu Kumar Das had jumped off Swatantrata Senani Express while being taken to Bihar from Delhi around 2.30am on Friday.
The SSP said Das, a resident of Bihar’s Darbhanga, was accused of murdering his wife. He and his mother were lodged in the sub-divisional jail of Benipur in Darbhanga. But he had escaped from there recently, and was arrested a couple of days ago.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further legal proceedings are being conducted,” the SSP said.
