Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is taking significant steps to ensure that the marriages of daughters from needy families are conducted with dignity and ease. The Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana, implemented by the Social Welfare Department, is proving to be a major source of support for economically weaker families.
Under the scheme, marriages of 28,833 couples have been solemnised across the state so far in the financial year 2026-27. The government has set a target of facilitating marriages for 72,540 couples during the current financial year.
Along with providing financial assistance to eligible families, the scheme also promotes social harmony and equality through mass marriage ceremonies.
Aimed at relieving needy families of the financial burden associated with their daughters’ marriages, the scheme is an important component of the government’s public welfare initiatives.
Social Welfare Department Director Sanjeev Singh said, “1,16,668 applications had been received from across the state so far in the financial year 2026-27. Of these, 34,845 applications have been approved, while 11,679 applications were found ineligible during scrutiny. Applications are being examined on the basis of eligibility, and the marriage process is being taken forward accordingly.”
According to district-wise figures, Hardoi ranks first in the state, with 1,385 couples having been married under the scheme. In Sitapur, marriages have been solemnised for 1,335 couples. The corresponding figures for Azamgarh and Pilibhit stand at 1,242 and 1,271 couples, respectively. These figures reflect the implementation of the scheme across various districts of the state.
Under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana, financial assistance of ₹1 lakh is provided for each couple. Of this amount, ₹64,000 is transferred to the bride’s bank account to help her establish her household. Additionally, ₹21,000 is allocated for wedding gifts, while ₹15,000 is spent on essential arrangements for the marriage ceremony.
The financial assistance aims to reduce the economic burden on families during weddings. Through the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive support in setting up their new households. The initiative is helping economically weaker families solemnise their daughters’ marriages with dignity.
Technology is being used to maintain transparency in the implementation of the scheme. An e-KYC system has been introduced to verify applicants, while income and caste certificates are digitally verified through the e-District portal. In addition, the Aadhaar-based payment system facilitates the transfer of financial assistance to the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
