Swati Chaudhary brings pride to Uttar Pradesh with Asian Para Games medal; CM Yogi congratulates her

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has congratulated Uttar Pradesh’s Swati Chaudhary on winning the silver medal in the women’s W1 archery event at the Asian Para Games 2026.

In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister described her achievement as historic. He wrote,” Swati’s success would inspire countless young people across India to pursue their dreams and turn them into reality.”

The Chief Minister said that everyone was proud of Swati Chaudhary and extended his best wishes for her bright future.

Meanwhile, the Yogi government has brought about wide-ranging changes in sports development and efforts to encourage athletes. The government has focused on providing opportunities for sporting talent through training, modern sports facilities, financial assistance, cash awards and government jobs. The objective is to create a conducive environment for athletes from the state to excel at national and international levels.

Facilities such as stadiums, multipurpose indoor sports halls, swimming pools and synthetic courts are being expanded across the state.

Under the One District, One Sport scheme, Khelo India centres have been approved in all 75 districts. These centres are designed to provide local talent with training, sports kits and essential equipment.

To provide quality training to athletes, five sports colleges are operating in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Saifai, Fatehpur and Saharanpur. These colleges offer training in 14 sports, along with free accommodation, meals and education. The establishment of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut is another initiative aimed at strengthening sports education and providing advanced training.

The Yogi government has announced cash rewards to recognise athletes’ achievements. Under the provisions, athletes winning individual gold, silver and bronze medals at the Olympics are entitled to ₹6 crore, ₹4 crore and ₹2 crore, respectively. Outstanding athletes are also honoured through the Laxman and Rani Laxmi Bai Awards.

To secure athletes’ futures, opportunities in government employment have been expanded, with provisions for international medal winners to be appointed to gazetted posts.

The development of sports grounds in villages and the construction of international cricket stadiums in Gorakhpur and Varanasi are expected to further expand sports infrastructure.

Under the Sports Policy 2023, the government is focusing on identifying talent, improving training facilities and linking athletes with employment opportunities. Through these initiatives, the state aims to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s sporting identity and create better opportunities for its youth.
