Municipal Corporation steps up cleanliness and mosquito control campaign to restore normal life after floods

In line with the state government’s public welfare priorities under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Municipal Corporation has intensified relief, cleanliness, and water drainage operations to restore normal life in flood-affected areas of Lucknow. A large-scale campaign is underway in affected areas of Zone 3 and Zone 6, including Faizullaganj, to remove waterlogging and garbage and prevent mosquito-borne diseases. Authorities are using 60 pumps to drain water in the two zones.

On Thursday, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar inspected Loharamau and Daudnagar in Faizullaganj and reviewed the cleanliness and water drainage work underway after the floodwaters receded. He directed officials to ensure prompt drainage by using available resources effectively in areas where water still accumulates. In areas where water levels have fallen, mud pumps should remove soil, mud, and silt so lanes and roads become accessible for movement.

A total of 48 pumps, including 40 diesel and eight electric pumps, have been deployed in Faizullaganj area of Zone 3. In Zone 6, 12 diesel pumps are being used to drain water. In addition, both zones are using 12 TMX desilting machines to clean drains and remove accumulated silt. Special attention is also being given to cleaning septic tanks. The Municipal Commissioner directed officials to remove accumulated dirt from roads, lanes, and drains; maintain an efficient drainage system; and regularly monitor cleanliness operations. He emphasized ensuring clean drinking water for affected families and maintaining the necessary arrangements to safeguard public health.

To control mosquito breeding after the floods, teams carried out anti-larval spraying over about 67 acres in Zone 3 using three drones. The area is also using five mechanical sweeping machines and 15 battery-operated anti-larval machines. Four large and 10 small machines have been deployed for fogging, while six tankers are spraying sodium hypochlorite. In Zone 6, a mosquito control campaign is underway using seven large and 24 small fogging machines. Bleaching powder, lime, malathion and anti-larval agents are also being used. Fogging has been carried out along approximately 22 kilometers of lanes in the affected areas.

To strengthen sanitation arrangements in the affected areas, 176 three-wheeler vehicles are carrying out door-to-door garbage collection. In addition, around 55 Tata Ace vehicles, eight tractors and eight mechanical road-sweeping machines have been deployed. Municipal Commissioner directed that the cleanliness campaign be intensified in the affected areas after the floodwaters recede. Drains, septic tanks, and waterlogged areas should be cleaned so roads and lanes become accessible for movement.

Gaurav Kumar emphasized the need to ensure clean drinking water for affected families and make the necessary arrangements to safeguard public health. Municipal Corporation teams are engaged in water drainage, garbage collection, desilting, and mosquito-control operations. Citizens have also been urged to maintain cleanliness, avoid dumping garbage in waterlogged areas, and follow precautions to ensure clean drinking water.
