Lucknow: The customs officials in Varanasi arrested a man carrying smuggled gold worth Rs 50.75 lakhs in his rectum during routine checking at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport .
The officials were busy checking the passengers after the arrival of flight IX 184 Sharjah-Varanasi when they noticed that a passenger, identified as Raushan Kumar of Bhojpur district in Bihar, was walking abnormally. On considering it doubtful, the officials frisked him properly. During X-ray, metallic objects were noticed in his rectum.
Later, doctors at a hospital extracted three capsules containing gold paste from his rectum after which he was arrested by the customs officials.
During investigation, the total weight of the smuggled gold was found as 860.210 grams and its value was estimated as Rs 50 lakh. Officials seized the gold and sent him to jail.
