As part of the Yogi government’s efforts to give new momentum to urban development in Uttar Pradesh, large-scale development work is underway under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. Focusing on drinking water, sewerage, water conservation, and expanding green areas, the mission is working to strengthen basic infrastructure in the state’s cities. The approval of projects worth approximately Rs. 29,716 crore reflects the government’s commitment towards urban development.
The Government of India’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0) scheme is being implemented from 2021 to 2026. Under this scheme, 762 urban local bodies and 60 AMRUT cities in the state have been included. The scheme aims to provide urban households with pure drinking water through taps, sewer connections, and better environmental facilities.
The state has approved 637 projects under AMRUT 2.0 for Rs. 29,716.29 crore. Of these, 114 projects are complete, while work is underway on 453 projects. So far, financial approval has been given to 612 projects and tenders for 567 projects have been approved.
The scheme has earmarked the largest share for strengthening drinking water and sewerage systems. This includes 437 drinking water projects worth Rs. 18,829 crore and 41 sewerage projects worth Rs. 10124 crore. These works aim to expand drinking water supply and sanitation facilities in cities.
To improve the urban environment, the government has approved 190 water body revival projects costing Rs. 403.45 crore. In addition, work is underway on 1777 green land and park projects worth Rs. 89.76 crore. The mission also includes reviving water bodies over one acre, rainwater harvesting, and water conservation. Implemented under the Yogi government, these projects are expected to accelerate the expansion of basic infrastructure, water security, and environmental conservation in the state’s cities.
