Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is according priority not only to the quality of education and healthcare services but also to the interests and welfare of students. In a significant initiative, the Medical Education Department has taken steps to ensure the prompt and effective resolution of students’ grievances in the state’s government and autonomous medical colleges. The department has initiated the process of implementing a three-tier grievance redressal mechanism across all medical colleges in the state. The objective is to create a safe, positive, transparent and student-centric academic environment in these institutions.
Under the Student Grievance and Welfare Initiative, launched at the initiative of Director General of Medical Education and Training Neha Sharma, a Student Welfare Nodal Officer will be appointed in every medical college. An institutional mechanism will also be developed to hear students’ complaints, suggestions and concerns and ensure their resolution.
Under the new system, a Student Grievance/Voice Box will be installed in the teaching/academic campus of every medical college. Students will be able to submit written complaints regarding academic and administrative matters, hostel facilities, infrastructure, safety and other student welfare-related issues through these boxes.
The designated Nodal Officer will open the grievance box every day. All complaints received will be entered in a prescribed register, and necessary action will be initiated through the concerned departments to ensure their resolution. This will provide students with an accessible and systematic channel to bring their concerns directly to the attention of the institution.
The Medical Education Department has prescribed a three-tier mechanism for grievance redressal. At the first level, the Student Welfare Nodal Officer will receive complaints and initiate the resolution process. If the issue remains unresolved at this level, students will be able to escalate their grievances to the Principal of the medical college.
If the matter remains unresolved at the second level as well, students can register their complaints with the Student Cell at the Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME) office. Thus, a mechanism for grievance redressal and monitoring has been established, extending from the college level to the Directorate General.
This initiative of the Yogi government will establish an accountable institutional mechanism in medical colleges to hear students’ concerns and address them effectively.
Maintaining records of complaints, conducting regular reviews and incorporating feedback will enhance transparency in the system. Students will also have access to a clearly defined channel and designated administrative levels for resolving their grievances.
In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, this initiative marks an important step towards improving medical education in the state while fostering a conducive academic environment for students.
