Drunk cops create ruckus over delay in raita, beat up customers at dhaba

Five policemen who were having a meal at a dhaba along the Agra-Mumbai highway on Sunday evening, got infuriated after the raita they had ordered, got delayed.

 

Lucknow: Five policemen who were having a meal at a dhaba along the Agra-Mumbai highway on Sunday evening, got infuriated after the raita they had ordered, got delayed.

The cops, who were alleged to be inebriated, initially abused the roadside eatery staff and when a few customers including a bus driver came to the dhaba owner’s defence, they went on a rampage, beating up customers including passengers of a bus. All of this was captured on CCTV. Taking cognisance of footage of the incident circulated on social media, DCP of the area attached two cops to Police Lines on Monday.

Owner of the ‘New Prince Dhaba’ under Malpura police limits, Manmohan Goyal said, “The five policemen had arrived at the dhaba around 11 pm on Sunday. After they completed the dinner, one of them, all of a sudden, placed a demand for raita. My staff got a bit late in preparing it and the cops lost their cool and started abusing them.” Goyal added: “I later rushed to the spot and requested them to calm down. But they refused to listen and threatened to shut my eatery.”

DCP Sonam Kumar said, “Taking suo motu cognisance and on the basis of preliminary investigation, sub- inspectors Aman Kumar and Neetu Singh have been attached to Police Lines. A detailed probe is being conducted.”
