STF arrest mastermind of inter-state ‘YouTube likes for cash’ scam from Karnataka

Accused duped people by posing as the gift giving manager of Flipkart and making them join the Telegram Messenger app where links of shady websites were shared with the targets.

Lucknow: The Uttarakhand Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a cyber fraudster from Karnataka, part of a gang that deceived individuals under the guise of facilitating easy earnings through liking YouTube videos and online cryptocurrency trading.

According to ASP (STF) Ankush Mishra, the accused, Raghvendra, 60455016

Raghvendra and his gang successfully defrauded a resident of Dehradun of more than Rs 18 lakh by falsely promising returns from liking YouTube videos and engaging in crypto trading.

Based on the victim’s complaint, a FIR has been registered at the cyber crime police station in Dehradun under sections 420 and 120B of IPC and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.

The investigative team acquired the mobile number used by the accused and details regarding the funds received by him from the complainant. Subsequently, it was discovered that the transferred amount from the complainant had been moved to Delhi, Jaipur and Rajasthan.

The STF team had earlier apprehended Kadir Khan and Anish Khan from Rajasthan’s Sikar district in connection with the case.
