India’s Screenwriters Association (SWA) plans to invite studios and producers to discuss and negotiate a fair payment and Benefits Minimum Basic Contract (MBC) for writers. The MBC would contain the basic principles upon which a standard writer-producer pact can be based. While there are minimum wage recommendations issued by the SWA, the contracts for writers are still dictated by production companies. With the rise of OTT platforms, the SWA hopes to educate writers to know their rights and access work opportunities with a system that guarantees a minimum payment.
